HPTLC workshops with AHPA

From Aug. 31 to Sept. 2, 2015, the HPTLC Association and AHPA will hold two consecutive two-day workshops on HPTLC in Candler, NC, USA: HPTLC for Popular Botanical Materials in a cGMP Compliant Environment

Register now! Only few places left.

The workshops will provide hands-on instruction from HPTLC experts.

  • Explore HPTLC for botanical materials including raw materials, extracts and finished products

  • Get skills and confidence to meet cGMP requirements

  • Learn more about the HPTLC process, method validation, sources of HPTLC methods, development of SOPs, detection of adulterants, qualitative and quantitative HPTLC analysis, investigation of shelf life etc.

Discussions will be accompanied by extensive hands-on lab sessions.

GMPs require that QC/QA personnel be adequately trained in dietary ingredient testing. Each participant shall receive a certificate of completion.

Benefit from the experience of these HPTLC experts:

Eike Reich, Ph.D., has a doctorate in natural products chemistry and was associate professor of chemistry at Longwood College, VA. In 1998 he joined CAMAG in Switzerland as head of laboratory. His research focuses on applications of HPTLC, particularly in the field of botanicals. Dr. Reich has published numerous papers on the subject and contributed chapters to text books and encyclopedias. He is author of the book "HPTLC for the analysis of medicinal plants." As a member of the Swiss and the European Pharmacopoeia (Groups 13A/B, TCM) and the USP expert committee on dietary supplements, he is actively contributing to the development of new monographs for plants. Eike is founding and board member of the International Association for the Advancement of HPTLC and is a member of AHPA's Analytical Laboratories, Raw Materials and Standards committees.

Judy Nichols, laboratory manager at CAMAG Scientific, is experienced in pharmacopoeial testing of raw botanical ingredients (including identity testing by HPTLC and microscopy). Judy provides customer support and training, HPTLC method development, feasibility studies, and contract identity testing. She has contributed to monographs for American Herbal Pharmacopoeia and USP Dietary Supplement Compendium by developing HPTLC methods for identification and providing chromatographic reference images. Judy is a member of AHPA's Standards and Analytical Laboratories committees and the International Association for the Advancement of HPTLC.

Sidney Sudberg is an active research chemist and scientist. He studied classical Chinese acupuncture in the UK and was introduced to the National Institute of Medical Herbalists and Western Herbal Medicine. He also studied chiropractic medicine at the Los Angeles College of Chiropractic. In 1997, Sidney combined his clinical experience with the chemistry background and founded Alkemists Labs, an independent contract analytical testing and research laboratory. Sidney has published scientific papers on the use of HPTLC for the evaluation of botanical identity and quality. He is a member of a number of professional scientific organizations, including the International Association for the Advancement of HPTLC. He serves on various committees of AHPA, including the Analytical Laboratories and Standards Committee, the Sports Nutrition Committee, Animal Products Committee, the Personal Products and the Cannabis Committee.

Maged Sharaf, Ph.D., is a pharmacist, pharmacognosist and analytical chemist. He is the chief science officer of AHPA. Before AHPA, Maged was the director of food, dietary supplement and herbal medicine standards at the U. S. Pharmacopeial Convention (USP). Before USP, he was pharmacy associate professor and has preceding experience conducting bioanalytical assay development and validation, human bioequivalence studies, and quality control and manufacturing of pharmaceutical dosage forms. Maged has more than 30 years of experience in the analysis of botanicals using various tools, including HPTLC. He is a member of a number of professional scientific organizations and is a founding and board member of the International Association for the Advancement of HPTLC.
